ATP Science ZMAG — Sleep. Relax. Recover. The Essential Mineral Formula.

ZMAG is ATP Science's flagship mineral supplement — a TGA-listed (AUST L 320575) combination of Magnesium Citrate, Zinc Gluconate, Organic Selenium Yeast and Taurine in vegan vegetarian capsules. Formulated to address the mineral deficiencies that active people, busy people, and anyone eating a typical Western diet are most likely to accumulate. Sleep support, muscle relaxation, muscle cramp relief, energy maintenance, immune function, nervous system support — all from four ingredients working together. 120 capsules / 40 serves. One of ATP Science's top-selling products. In stock now at EatMe Supplements.

Who Uses ZMAG and What They Report

With 113 reviews and a 4.9-star average, ZMAG has an unusually long and loyal customer base. Reviewers include a shift worker who has used it consistently for years specifically for sleep quality, someone who finds it easier on the stomach than other magnesium products (Magnesium Citrate is significantly more GI-friendly than oxide), a user who describes it as a cornerstone of their wellness strategy — previously replacing their Multi when ATP Science discontinued that product — and now ships it internationally from New Zealand. The breadth of the benefit claims on the product (sleep, cramps, energy, stress) maps directly to the breadth of reported use cases in the reviews.

Why Mineral Deficiency Is More Common Than Most People Realise

ATP Science's framing here is worth repeating: getting sufficient minerals from food is genuinely difficult in the modern context. Farming soil depletion, food processing, harvesting practices, and cooking all reduce the mineral content of food before it reaches the plate. The typical Western diet — low in vegetables, high in processed foods — is structurally deficient in magnesium and zinc. If you exercise regularly, the problem compounds: sweat losses during training are significant for both magnesium and zinc, and the higher metabolic demands of an active body accelerate depletion. ZMAG isn't a performance enhancer — it's a baseline correction. It fills the gaps that diet and modern food systems leave.

Four Active Ingredients — What Each Does and Why

  • Magnesium Citrate (647.25mg / 100mg elemental Mg per capsule) — Magnesium is involved in over 300 enzymatic reactions and is the body's primary muscle relaxant mineral. Magnesium Citrate is a well-absorbed, bioavailable form bound to citric acid — the citrate carrier also plays a role in energy metabolism (Krebs cycle) independently of the magnesium itself. The TGA-approved indications for the magnesium in ZMAG include: reducing muscle cramps, supporting muscle relaxation, maintaining healthy sleeping patterns, relieving nervous tension, and supporting general mental wellbeing. At 100mg of elemental magnesium per capsule, three capsules per day provides 300mg — a meaningful contribution to the adult daily target of 320–420mg.
  • Zinc Gluconate (19.23mg / 2.5mg elemental Zn per capsule) — Zinc deficiency is among the most prevalent micronutrient deficiencies in Western populations. Zinc is a cofactor in hundreds of enzymatic reactions — including testosterone synthesis, immune function, wound healing, DNA repair and protein synthesis. Zinc gluconate is a well-tolerated, bioavailable zinc form. The TGA-approved indications include supporting healthy immune system function and maintaining normal hair and nail health. Athletes lose significant zinc through sweat — the 2.5mg per capsule in ZMAG addresses this ongoing depletion.
  • Organic Selenium Yeast — Saccharomyces cerevisiae (3.13mg / 6.25mcg elemental Se per capsule) — ATP Science uses organic selenium — selenomethionine from yeast — rather than inorganic forms (selenate or selenite). The organic form is the same form found in plant foods after selenium is taken up through the root system and converted — it is generally better retained by the body. Selenium is an essential trace mineral involved in antioxidant enzyme function (glutathione peroxidase), thyroid hormone metabolism, immune function, and hair and nail maintenance. The dose per capsule is deliberately conservative — selenium is beneficial at the right dose but toxic in excess, which is why ATP Science include the standard warning about not exceeding 150mcg daily from supplements.
  • Taurine (25mg per capsule) — Taurine is a semi-essential amino acid abundant in meat. It is specifically included in ZMAG for its role in supporting magnesium function: taurine helps keep magnesium inside cells and calcium outside cells, which is the basis of healthy muscle relaxation and contraction. Without adequate taurine, magnesium's muscle-relaxing effect is less efficient. The inclusion of taurine in ZMAG is what distinguishes it from a plain magnesium supplement — it's designed so the magnesium actually works where it needs to.

TGA-Listed — 17 Approved Indications

ZMAG carries TGA listing AUST L 320575 with a substantial list of approved therapeutic indications, including: maintaining and supporting energy levels; supporting healthy immune function; maintaining hair and nail health and strength; maintaining bone health; decreasing and relieving muscle cramps, mild muscle spasms and twitches; maintaining muscle health, function and relaxation; decreasing muscle pain, aches and soreness; assisting mind relaxation; decreasing nervous tension; maintaining general mental wellbeing and nervous system health; maintaining refreshing sleep and healthy sleeping patterns. This is a broad functional profile for a four-ingredient product.

Dosing

The label dose is 1 capsule 3 times daily with meals — this spreads absorption throughout the day and minimises any gastrointestinal load from the magnesium. The maximum is 3 capsules per day. At 3 capsules: 300mg elemental Mg, 7.5mg Zn, 18.75mcg Se, 75mg Taurine. For the selenium specifically: 18.75mcg from ZMAG sits well within the safe daily supplemental limit of 150mcg noted on the label.

Active Ingredients Per Capsule

  • Magnesium Citrate: 647.25mg (equiv. to 100mg elemental Magnesium)
  • Zinc Gluconate: 19.23mg (equiv. to 2.5mg elemental Zinc)
  • High Selenium Yeast: 3.13mg (equiv. to 6.25mcg elemental Selenium)
  • Taurine: 25mg

What’s Inside

Taurine, Zinc Gluconate, Organic Selenium Yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae), Magnesium Citrate. Encapsulated in vegetable capsules. No artificial colours, flavours or sweeteners. Vegan-friendly. Gluten-free. Dairy-free. GMO-free. TGA-listed AUST L 320575. Made in Brisbane, Australia.

ZMAG vs MAGx4 — Which One?

Both are ATP Science magnesium products but they serve different purposes. ZMAG is a broader mineral formula — magnesium plus zinc, selenium and taurine, TGA-listed with 17 approved indications, taken in capsules with meals throughout the day. It's the foundational daily mineral supplement. MAGx4 is a four-form magnesium powder (Orotate, Threonate, Bisglycinate, Citrate) specifically targeting the depth and breadth of magnesium coverage — no zinc or selenium, but more total magnesium per serve and the brain-specific Magnesium Threonate form. Many users could benefit from running both — ZMAG as the daily mineral baseline, MAGx4 in the evening for targeted magnesium loading including the cognitive/sleep benefits of Threonate.

How to Take It

Take 1 capsule 3 times daily with meals. Maximum 3 capsules per day. Always read the label. Follow directions for use. If symptoms persist, consult your healthcare professional. This product contains selenium which is toxic in high doses — daily supplemental selenium intake should not exceed 150mcg from all sources.
