ATP Science Acetyl L-Carnitine — Pure ALCAR for Fat Metabolism and Brain Health
ATP Science Acetyl L-Carnitine is 100% pure Acetyl L-Carnitine powder — nothing else. Produced in ATP Science's Brisbane facility using natural ingredients, with zero flavours, zero colours, zero sweeteners. A single ingredient doing exactly what carnitine does: transporting fatty acids to the mitochondria where they're converted to energy. Available in 100g and 250g, in stock at EatMe Supplements.
What It Does
- Fat metabolism support — facilitates fatty acid transport into the mitochondria for energy production, the core function carnitine is known for.
- Energy production — more efficient fatty acid oxidation means more available ATP for training and daily performance.
- Cognitive support — crosses the blood-brain barrier unlike standard carnitine; research links ALCAR to neuroprotective effects and neurotransmitter function.
- Training endurance — reduces lactate accumulation during exercise, supporting sustained output across longer sessions.
- Zero macros — 0 calories, 0 carbs, 0 fat, 0 sugar per serve.
- Made in Brisbane — produced at ATP Science's Australian facility, natural ingredients only, no artificial colours or sweeteners.
What Acetyl L-Carnitine Actually Does
Every cell in your body runs on ATP — adenosine triphosphate, the molecule that powers everything from muscle contractions to brain function. Fatty acids are one of the primary fuels used to produce ATP, but they can't cross the mitochondrial membrane on their own. That's where carnitine comes in — it's the transporter that carries fatty acids through the membrane to be oxidised for energy. Without carnitine, fat oxidation can't occur at its normal rate, regardless of how much fat is available.
The Acetyl form (ALCAR) adds a second dimension to standard L-Carnitine: the acetyl group can cross the blood-brain barrier, making ALCAR effective not only for fat metabolism but also for cognitive performance. Research supports ALCAR for neurotrophic and neuroprotective effects — supporting healthy nerve function and neurotransmitter activity that plain L-Carnitine can't reach.
Acetyl L-Carnitine vs Standard L-Carnitine
Standard L-Carnitine and ALCAR both support fatty acid transport. The key difference is the acetyl group — it makes ALCAR more bioavailable, better tasting (slightly) and critically, able to cross the blood-brain barrier to support cognitive function. Standard carnitine stays peripheral; ALCAR reaches the central nervous system. If fat metabolism is your only goal, either form works. If you also want the cognitive and neuroprotective benefits, ALCAR is the more complete option.
Which Size?
- 100g / 50 serves — two months at the standard 1g daily dose, or one month at 2g pre-training.
- 250g / 125 serves — the committed buy, better value per gram for daily users.
A Note on the Smell
Pure carnitine has a distinctively fishy smell when dry — this is completely normal and inherent to the compound. It dissolves cleanly in water and the taste in solution is only mildly bitter, similar to lemon water. Don't let the dry powder smell put you off — it's a sign of purity, not a quality issue.
How to Take It
Mix 2g (approximately one level scoop) into 200–300ml of cold water before, during or after training. Can also be added to a pre workout drink or protein shake. Start with 1g to assess tolerance and build up. Stimulant-free — timing is flexible.
